I love line and shape and creating art with movement while playing and experimenting with these elements along with color, proportion and texture. Fabric and textiles are my primary medium as I have a life history and familiarity with them having learned to sew as a child and even playing hide-and-seek in boxes of fabric. You could say it is in my DNA.
BIO
Cheryl Costley works most days in her studio in Stone Mountain, GA where she makes original art quilts and fiber art wall hangings. She considers it a luxury to be able to spend so much time creating after years of raising children and working as a teacher, administrator, corporate executive and HR consultant.
With her own PhD in hand she set out to learn the equivalent in fiber art by spending over 10 years studying under and taking workshops from some of the best in her field: Nancy Crow, Libby Lehman, Rosalie Dace, Carol Soderlund, Ruth McDowell, Jane Sassaman, Lisa Call, Jane Dunnewold, Elizabeth Barton and others. In addition, she is thankful to the original Fiber Art Study Group in Minneapolis who nurtured and supported her efforts during her early beginnings.
Because of such support and learnings from these artists as well as hours and hours spent in her studio she has now developed her own unique style, which is reflective of her as a person. A list of her many shows and awards can be obtained upon request.
